Everyone deserves a safe home of their own.

helping people transition out of homelessness and into a hope-filled future

It’s not as simple as “get a job.”

For those of us who’ve never experienced homelessness, getting off the streets may seem easy: Get a job so you have money to get a place to live. Right? But what if it’s actually not that simple?

How do you get a job if you don’t have an address to put on a job application?
… or a place to shower before an interview?
… or if you lost your ID when you were evicted from your last place, and you don’t have the money for a replacement?
… or when you’ve been sleeping in the blistering August heat or the unbearable February chill?
.
… or when you don’t have money for gas… or a bus pass?
.
… or if you haven’t had a nutritious meal in weeks?

The first step to helping someone transition out of homeless is not to get them a job. It’s to get them a home.

Ending homelessness is complicated… and possible.

Here’s our approach:

Referral

We receive referrals from trusted community partners. .

Learn how people qualify.

Housing

We get them off the streets and into a safe, affordable apartment.

Help us rehab a property.

Support

We connect our residents with a volunteer advocate and relevant resources.

Become an advocate.

Success

People who were once homeless stay housed long-term.

Donate a move-in kit.

Homelessness is just plain wrong.

When people lack the support and money to stay housed long-term, they feel discouraged and alone. But we’ve seen how lives can change when they’re in a safe, stable, and supportive environment.

Since 2011, HomeFirst STL has helped our residents:

N

Rebuild relationships with family members.

N

Advance their education.

N

Meet vocational training goals.

N

Get connected to community resources such as job training, legal support, and budgeting assistance.

N

Find meaningful employment and reach self-sufficiency.

N

Stop being defined by their past and regain their dignity and self-worth.

N

Shift their focus from day-to-day survival toward a hope-filled future.

Together, we can change lives.

Give Money or Home Goods

A major contributor to homelessness in St. Louis is the lack of affordable housing. With the support of our generous donors, we can purchase, restore, and furnish apartments to get people off the streets.
